Turn a message into a task, so a promise in the chat does not get lost

Any message in your family chat can become a task on the shared list, assigned to a person and dated, without retyping it. Here is how, and what the chat suggests on its own.

Written by Brian Fluhr

The trouble with a group text is that the useful sentence is gone by lunchtime. "Can someone pick up Mom's prescription Thursday?" gets three thumbs-up and no owner.

In SeniorThrive's family messages, that sentence can become a task while it is still on the screen.

Turning a message into a task

  1. Open your family messages.

  2. On the message, tap Turn into task.

  3. A small form opens under the message, with the task already written from it. "Can you pick up Mom's prescription Thursday?" becomes "Pick up Mom's prescription". Change the wording if you like.

  4. Pick who it is for: Anyone in Circle (Unassigned), or one person from your Circle.

  5. Add a due date if there is one, and a category if it helps: General, Meals & Food, Medical & Meds, Rides, or Safety & Home.

  6. Tap Save to Our List.

The message then shows Added to Our List, with the date and the name, and a link that opens the task on the Tasks page.

When the chat suggests it for you

When a message reads like a request, a promise, or an errand, such as pick up, call, book, refill, drive, or "I'll go", a small Add to Our List chip appears under it. If the message names a day, the chip says so: Add to Our List, Thursday. Tap it and the same form opens, already filled in.

It is a suggestion, not a decision. Ignore the chip and nothing happens. It never creates a task on its own, and it never sends anything to anyone.

What the task carries

The task lands on the shared Tasks list with the person, the date, and a note saying which message it came from, so whoever picks it up can read the conversation around it.

Why this is different from a text thread

A text thread holds the request. It cannot hold the answer to "did anyone do it?" The task can. Once it is on the list, it stops being a message everyone read and becomes a job one person owns, with a date, that shows as done when it is done.

Who can do this

Anyone in the Circle who can see the family messages. The task goes on the same shared Tasks list everyone in the Circle sees.
