How do I close my account, and what happens to my data?

Closing starts a 30-day grace period you can cancel at any point. After that your sign-in is deleted and your details erased; some things you saved are kept without your name. Download a copy first.

Closing your account is the one permanent step in SeniorThrive, so it is worth knowing exactly what it does before you start.

First, check you want this and not cancelling

They are different, and most people who reach for one want the other.

  • Cancelling stops the payment. The account stays, on the Free plan, with everything intact. Reversible any time.

  • Closing deletes your sign-in and erases your name, email, phone and address. Permanent, once the grace period ends.

If the problem is money, cancel. The Free plan never expires and keeps what you built.

How closing works

  1. Open Settings from your name in the top corner.

  2. Choose to close the account.

  3. A 30-day grace period begins, with a banner showing the exact closing date.

You can change your mind at any point in those 30 days and nothing will have happened.

What closing does, exactly

After the 30 days, your sign-in is deleted and your name, email, phone and address are erased from your account. Your mood entries and daily check-ins are deleted.

Some things you saved, such as photos, letters, contacts and companion conversations, are kept, with your name and contact details removed from them. They are not deleted, and they are no longer yours to reach, because the sign-in that opened them is gone. The screen says this before you confirm, and it is worth reading twice.

Download a copy first

Use Download My Data in Settings before the date arrives. Afterwards there is no way back into it, for you or for us.

This matters more than it sounds. Years of check-ins, notes and photographs are the sort of thing people want later and do not think about at the moment they are closing an account.

What happens to your Circle

Other people keep their own accounts. Closing yours removes you from their Circles; it does not close anything of theirs.

If you are the older adult the Circle is about, that Circle exists because of you, so talk to your family before closing rather than after.

If someone has died

Please write to us instead of closing the account. Families usually want to keep the messages and the photographs, and there is a gentler way to do this than closing. We will work it out with you.
